Format: Heat Pump Site Tour Series 2024
This event is part of a series of Heat Pump Site Visits around Melbourne and will be an excellent opportunity to network, bringing together consultants, facility managers, energy assessors and regulators.
Heat pumps are energy-efficient heating and cooling systems that can extract heat from the air, water, or ground and transfer it from one place to another. They work on the principle of thermodynamics, using a small amount of energy to move heat from a low-temperature reservoir to a high-temperature reservoir, making the transfer of heat more efficient than generating it directly.
There are several types of heat pumps in a range of applications that our site tours will explore.
Air Source Heat Pumps:
These are the most common type and extract heat from the outdoor air. They can be used for both heating and cooling purposes and are relatively easy to install.
Ground Source Heat Pumps:
Also known as geothermal heat pumps, these systems extract heat from the ground or a body of water, such as a pond or lake. They are highly efficient but require more installation effort and cost compared to air source heat pumps.
Water Source Heat Pumps:
These extract heat from a water source, such as a well, lake, or river. They are similar to ground source heat pumps but utilize water as the heat exchange medium.
Heat pumps offer several benefits, including energy efficiency, lower operating costs compared to traditional heating and cooling systems, and environmental friendliness, as they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using renewable heat sources. However, their efficiency may vary depending on factors such as climate, installation quality, and system size.
