The NSW Branch Committee invites you to the Fire Safety Compliance and Networking Event on Thursday 7 March. 

 As of 1 July 2020, practitioners must be accredited under FPAS if they wish to perform regulated work under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 (EPAR). Essential event for people who manage or own a building in NSW that requires an AFSS. The statement also verifies that an accredited practitioner (fire safety) has inspected and confirmed that the exit systems in the building are in compliance with the Regulation.

Speaker Presentations will include a variety of topics on the Fire Safety Schedule after a fit-out or upgrade to a building and how they should be maintained along with a Contractors perspective and policy updates focusing on present and future expectations.

Following after the speaker presentations we will provide you with a networking opportunity to connect with likeminded others and celebrate together over canapes and refreshments.

Speakers

Gaurav Bhalla, General Manager - First 5 Minutes
Gaurav is a highly qualified risk professional, with over 20-plus years in Corporate Governance and Risk Management specialising in WHS, Emergency Management, Essential Safety Measures, Crisis and Business Continuity, Property Risk, Change Management, and Project Management. 
From a Technical point of view, Gaurav is a Competent Fire Safety Practitioner and having worked in leadership roles in Australia’s 2 largest Building Certification organisations has a good understanding of the Building Codes. Having spent most of his career in the Australian Property and Facilities industry, while working on both sides (Landlord and service provider) has enabled him to have a good understanding of the most effective ways of achieving the best outcomes when it comes to compliance and regulations. 


Rob Broadhead, CEO - 2020 Fire
Rob Broadhead is the CEO of 2020 Fire Protection – a leading fire protection maintenance business in NSW. He’s the recently outgoing vice-president of FPA Australia and was FMA’s representative on the NSW Government’s Fire Safety Steering Committee. The changes coming in 2025 were driven by the outcomes of that Fire Safety Steering committee and are all about lifting the quality and consistency of fire safety across NSW.
Rob is an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) and Graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers; and with 30+ years’ experience in fire, his knowledge of the industry’s practicalities are available for any FMA member to call upon. Complex fire issues, explained simply is Rob & his business’s specialty.


Michael Marks, NSW Building Commission
Michael is a Policy Manager in the Building Policy Team at Building Commission NSW where he is working on the NSW Government’s reform agenda delivering transformational reforms to lift building standards and restore confidence in the NSW construction industry. Michael has extensive experience in building regulation having previously held roles in the private and public sectors relating to planning, certification, building codes and fire safety. Michael has also worked at various rural, regional and metropolitan councils in building and fire safety roles. Michael led the development of the first Practice Standard for Registered Certifiers, which provides clear guidance for registered certifiers as to the expectations of the building regulator.
