Report Ranks Australia as Global Battery Leader
Australia has emerged as the world’s third-largest market for grid-scale battery storage, with Western Australia leading a rapid transformation of the energy sector.
New data shows battery installations are expanding at record pace, driven by falling technology costs, growing renewable energy capacity and the need to improve grid reliability.
In Western Australia, major battery projects in Kwinana and Collie have quadrupled the state’s storage capacity in little more than a year, helping shift renewable energy generated during the day into peak evening demand periods.
For facilities managers, the trend highlights the increasing role of battery storage in energy resilience and cost management.
As utilities invest heavily in large-scale storage, businesses are also exploring on-site battery systems to reduce peak demand charges, support backup power requirements and maximise solar generation.
Industry experts believe Australia’s battery boom is accelerating the transition away from coal and gas while creating new opportunities for more flexible and efficient energy management.
