National Data Capacity Could Climb 300% by 2035

The country's data centre fleet is steadily increasing, now offering a capacity of around 1.2 gigawatts (GW), but that rise could soon be accelerated to almost 5 GW within the next decade.

A report from research entity Moody's Ratings has found that the additional stress put on Australia's energy capacity.

Six GW of new generation capacity will be required with an estimated annual electricity consumptions of more than 21 terawatt-hours at an estimated cost of $15 billion in building and servicing.

The report also heralds batteries as a significant player, playing an important role in long duration firming capacity, particularly with Australia rolling out its Renewable Energy Zones (REZ).
