 Throughout the year the FMA, in conjunction with industry stakeholders, develops a range of professional development and training courses.

Professional Development & Training

  • National seminar series: based on compliance and relevant topics designed specifically for the FM professional
  • One day training & customised courses: designed to enhance the development of competencies required for the FM professional and best practice techniques. These courses can also be customised to align with your organisation, its policies and using its case studies to enhance your team's understanding and skills application.
  • Workshops: these are held at least annually with a focus on an industry specific topic.  
    Most recently have been the Energy Efficiency Workshop and the Maintenance Workshop.
  • Formal courses: these include the FMA developed Diploma of Facilities Management as well as a number of other courses available through tertiary education providers.

Facilities Management Risk and Compliance (2 days) 

This interactive training program is delivered over two days by an experienced trainer. You will be offered practical guidance to assist in effectively managing key facilities risk issues, whilst also considering the strategic and operational issues.

Energy Management for Facility Managers, Pilot Program (1 day) 

This course has been designed by Office of Environment and Energy (OEH) in engagment with many industry sector stakeholders (including FMA) to provide comprehensive outcomes for facility managers in energy management.  This day covers the three fundamentals as you are led through Energy, Business and Technical modules. 

Energy management competencies it’s framework for Facilities Managers.  The three fundamentals for the future of FM:

  • Session 1 – Energy supply, consumption and Facilities Management
  • Session 2 – Implementing Energy Management in your day to day operations
  • Session 3 – Integrating energy management practices within asset management
  • Session 4 – Driving continuous improvement

EMFM module #2  -  business fundamentals

  • Session 1 – The FM Role in energy management
  • Session 2 – Getting stakeholders on board with energy management
  • Session 3 – Getting funding and management support to improve energy management
  • Session 4 – Selling the benefits of energy management 

EMFM module #3 – technical fundamentals (HVAC)

  • Session 1 – HVAC and energy management – what does a best practice FM do?
  • Session 2 – Building Management Systems
  • Session 3 – Calculating Cool
  • Session 4 – Changing reactive management into proactive management
