Expand the band: new campaign to save energy

CitySwitch, with support from the FMA, AIRAH and Better Buildings Partnership, has launched a campaign to help facility managers "expand the band". The campaign aims to improve occupant comfort and productivity, reduce emissions, and save money.

The average commercial office building in Australia maintains a fixed temperature of 22°C each day of the year. However, research suggests that providing a diversity of work environments and temperatures, and letting people choose the space for the task, supports better outcomes for people.

By expanding the band by just 1°C, facility managers can also reduce the amount of energy their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system consumes by 6–10%. Hence, the campaign delivers a range of benefits to building occupants, to the environment, and to the bottom line.

Climate change is the biggest challenge that we face today – reducing our energy consumption is Australia’s best opportunity to act on climate change.

So be part of the change this summer! Expanding the band is an easy and free way to improve occupant comfort and productivity, reduce emissions, and save money.

The CitySwitch campaign includes a number of resources to help facility managers "expand the band".
