Aged Care 101: entering this rapidly expanding market

Sharyn McIlwain presents at the "Aged Care 101" seminar.

Approximately 70 people attended the FMA’s “Aged Care 101” seminar in Docklands on 22 November 2018. Organised by the Victorian Branch, this seminar was designed to give facility managers the knowledge required to enter this rapidly expanding market.

Australia’s ageing population is predicted to result in a 40% increase in aged care beds by 2023. Facility managers form an integral function in the management of aged care facilities, and will only become more involved as the market grows and becomes more complex.

Sharyn McIlwain delivered an engaging and informative presentation, highlighting the day-to-day aspects of managing an aged care facility at the coalface. With more than 20 years’ experience, she is committed to driving best practice and ensuring the best quality of life for all residents.

As Operations Manager for a small private operator, Sharyn oversaw everything from human resources and budgeting to amateur counselling (for residents and their families as well as staff) – all this while trying to maintain full compliance with the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency.

The seminar received very positive feedback and also provided a fantastic networking opportunity for attendees.

The FMA would like to thank GJK Facility Services for sponsoring this event.
