International Lighting & Facilities Event 30 May – 1 June 2017, Sydney

sparc-FMA International Lighting & Facilities Event 2017 was held at the new International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney, from 30 May to 1 June. This event is building on the many successes of SPARC 2011, 2013 and 2015, run by the Lighting Council of Australia, and occurred during Vivid Sydney – the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest annual celebration of light, music and ideas.

It was the first event in a long-term strategy by the Facility Management Association and although the sparc lighting event has a long and positive track record in the lighting area, the opportunity to broaden the event to incorporate facilities management with another industry body is very exciting. The inclusion of facilities management into this event made sparc-FMA the largest trade exhibition in the industry that contributes to the industry’s development and will provide insights for future events.

It was a chance for participants to network with key decision-makers. We are very thankful to our facilities management stakeholders for their involvement, especially as it was the Association’s first time in this collaboration. It was also a good opportunity for guests to see and hear what is new, and what’s next, in facilities management and smart lighting technology.

There was no shortage of expert speakers from Australia and around the world and there was plenty of facilities management & lighting insights that were shared during the event, including:

Astronomer and Head of Lighting Environment, Australian Astronomical Observatory, Professor Fred Watson

Asia Pacific Regional Manager, JLL Occupancy Planning, Rachel Reese

First Counsellor, Climate and Environmental Policies, Delegation of the European Union to Australia, Caroline Lambert

Founder and Principal at BIC Solutions, Caro Walters

President, Clanton & Associates, Nancy Clanton

Director of Strategy & Innovation, Haron Robson, Peter Glasheen

Partner, PLP Architecture, speaking about The Edge, Ron Bakker

Vice President, Lutron Electronics, Dr Pekka Hakkarainen

Head of ICT Standards Coordination, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Gilles Thonet

General Manager - Brand, Innovation and Technology of Spotless, Julian Fogarty

And as always, the Gala Dinner was the highlight of the event. Held in the International Convention Centre’s Grand Ballroom, guests at the Gala Dinner enjoyed a night of spectacular food and entertainment with sweeping views of Sydney right in the hub of Vivid Sydney. Casey Donovan performed beautifully and reminded us all of what connects us; she showed everyone why she is one of Australia’s most versatile Indigenous Entertainers.

Thank you to everyone who attended sparc-FMA.
