Over 500 facilities management professionals from around the country came together to recognise the industry’s leaders and innovators at the 2016 FM Industry Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner, held on 17 November at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

For the second year in a row, the  Awards was a sell-out event, once again highlighting its rapidly increasing importance as both a celebration of the industry and as a valuable way to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the designers, creators and managers of the built environment.

The Awards were presented across eight categories, culminating with the Facilities Manager of the Year Award, won by Josh Ryan from CBC Facilities Services.

As Senior Facilities Manager at Sydney Airport, Josh Ryan is responsible for over 240 buildings, from aircraft hangars to major passenger terminals. About 80,000 people every day pass through the facilities that Josh’s team maintains.

Josh has been responsible for CBC achieving significant improvements in the overall environment at Sydney Airport. Under his leadership the team have taken service from Bronze to Gold standard, delivering exemplary performance improvements and consistently high client satisfaction levels.

On congratulating Josh, FMA Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Burt said, “Josh is an outstanding facilities manager and true ambassador for the industry. He exemplifies the skills, professionalism and dedication to the industry that help raise standards at every level.”

The Awards also welcomed The Hon Telmo Languiller, MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Hon David Davis, Shadow Minister for Planning, Local Government & Equality

Mr Burt said, “We were delighted with the number of professionals attending this year’s event. It was a clear reflection of the industry’s escalating respect for the Awards and the focus it provides the vital work of an industry that employs around 200,000 people, turns over $20 billion a year and contributes significantly to the health, wellbeing and productivity of Australia’s community.

It is also a credit to our many sponsors whose ongoing support is invaluable to the success of the Awards.

I congratulate every nominee, but in particular, the winners in each category. I urge them to keep striving for excellence.”

Once again attendees dug deep for FMA’s Corporate Charity Partner Whitelion in support of homeless youth, with the Award raffle raising a record breaking $8,800 in three hours.

The industry event of the year was full of highlights.

Upon entering the Savoy Room, guests were entertained by the rhythmic sounds of the Taiko Drummers. The Master Ceremonies for the evening was comedian and music man, Sammy J, delighting the audience with his own brand of humour and music and keep the night moving along. Guests were also treated to the vocal stylings of the legendary Vika and Linda Bull, who wowed the audience with their velvet vocals and then after all the proceedings were done and dusted, the crowd got to dance the night away to the funky beats of the band Big City Beat.
