Wrapping up the Digital Transformation in FM summit


Our Digital Transformation Summit was held on Thursday 16 February at the Telstra Customer Insights Centre in Sydney. The program included 2 half day sessions – a morning session and an afternoon session - which saw an exceptional line-up of specialist speakers.

The morning session included:

Four (4) presentations from leading experts in the BIM in FM field and 60 min panel focusing on specific BIM in FM case studies.


The morning session was dedicated to BIM in FM and aimed at taking an in-depth look at BIM as being much more than a design tool, using case studies to showcase examples of how it can be used effectively in facility management, to explore what technological advancements have recently been made, and to look at how the future of BIM in FM can be shaped.

BIM in FM Panel

The BIM in FM panel was hosted by Bryon Price, Strategic Development Director for the A.G. Coombs Group and the FMA board representative for the BIM in FM Portfolio Group. The discussion topic was: The opportunity presented by BIM - is it really worth it, particularly in FM?


The panel involved an impressive line-up of BIM experts including: Shannon Thomas from AMCA; Neil Greenstreet from NATSPEC; Chris Penn from BuildingSMART Australia; David Chokolich from HFM Asset Management and Marcus Klopsch from JLL Australia. 


The afternoon session included:

Four (4) presentations by leading experts in the area of Digital Technologies and a 60 min panel focusing on Digital Technology developments, in particular looking at specific case studies.
The Digital Technologies session and panel is aimed at looking at technological developments and their implementation over the past 12 months in facility management, predominantly looking at current projects provided as case studies, including the particular technology used and what the future holds, as technology continues to develop.

Robert Colla is a technology professional with over 20 years’ experience
Tim Parker is a Director in the Australian Sustainability team for WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.
Matt Sullivan-Kilgour, co-founder of the technology company Hux.
Jamie Wallis manages the Commercial Buildings team at Sustainability Victoria.
Michael Haines established VANZI in 2011, a 'not-for-profit' initiative to broker development of the 3D Digital Built Environment. 
Sally Carmichael, Senior Consultant in energy efficiency with Energy Action. 


Digital Technologies Panel:
The Digital Technologies panel was hosted by Andrew Herman, Regional Director at Urbanise Asia Pacific. With 25 years IT sales and sales management experience, Andrew has developed a strong focus on selling business led solutions to strategic clients. The discussion topic was: Technology isn’t just another fad - it is unlikely to deliver long term sustainable benefits.
The digital technologies panel also presented an impressive line-up of technologies experts including: Julian Fogarty from Spotless; Esteban Valdebenito from Aconex; and Samantha Fuller from Service Works Global.


The day concluded at 5pm with networking drinks and a chance for participants to mingle with speakers and panellists to further enhance their knowledge of digital transformation in FM.
