FMA Australia membership can be held by individuals only; not organisations, but groups of five or more members from the same organisation can form a Team Membership. Membership is renewed annually, with the cost of the first year of membership also including a joining fee.

FMA Australia offers several categories of membership tailored to suit each individual or group operating in the Facilities Management sector. These categories include: General, Supporter, Affiliate, Student and International memberships.

Membership Categories

General Membership

General Membership is available to individuals who demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the FMA Australia board, the practice of facility management in at least one of the following areas:

• Facility Investment: development of corporate facilities; policies; long range facility planning analysis; facility procurement and disposal; facility investment planning.
• Facility Creation: facility planning and design; facility construction and renovation; coordination of facility changes and relocation; project management.
• Facility Operations: building operations, maintenance and engineering; coordination of facility changes and relocation; furnishings and equipment inventory management; tenancy management.
• Facility Administration: coordination with organisational resources including business operations, human resources and information technology; financial administration, sales and marketing; training; risk management.
• Providing Consultancy Services: in facility management and demonstrates a sound knowledge of the theory of facility management, including experience in the field.
• Teaching or Advanced Research: in the area of facility management.

Supporter Membership

Supporter Membership is available to individuals from organisations that support the facility management industry through the provision of products and services. A Supporter membership will belong to the organisation, however the benefits of membership will apply to the nominated individual only and cannot extend to anyone else within the organisation.

Affiliate Membership

Affiliate membership is available to individuals who have just begun (within the past six months) or are looking to begin work in the area of facilities management (or a related discipline). The applicant must be able to produce either a degree or diploma in facilities management or an original testimonial stating that they have just begun (within the past six months) or are looking to begin work in the area of facilities management. After a maximum two years as an Affiliate Member, members must change to a General Membership.

Student Membership

Student Membership is available to individuals who are enrolled as full-time students of facility management or a related discipline at an institution recognised by the FMA Australia Board. Proof of enrolment is required and must be included with this application.

International Membership

International Membership is available to individuals working within facility management (or a related discipline) who are not residing within Australia.

Team Membership

Five or more members from the same organisation can also form a Team Membership, which provides all the same benefits as individual membership, but at a discounted rate. Team Memberships can include any combination of General, Supporter and Affiliate members.
