The Facilities Management (FM) Action Agenda, Managing the Built Environment, completed its tenure in June 2008. The Third Year Implementation Report has been prepared by the Facilities Management (FM) Action Agenda Implementation Board which was chaired by John McCarthy and comprised of an excellent mix of high quality, committed industry people.

In line with the 2005 ‘FM Action Agenda: Managing the Built Environment’ Strategic Plan, the Implementation Board has continued to promote industry recognition across the four platforms of Innovation, Education & Training, Regulatory Reform and Sustainability as previously identified and with reference to the endorsed 20 Actions. Steady progress has been made towards the facility management industry’s vision of being "…the foremost contributor to a productive and sustainable built environment…”.

It should be noted that it was always anticipated that many of the FM Action Agenda’s initiatives would not have defined completion dates. This concept of continuing improvement and expanding opportunities has been incorporated within the 2008 transition plan. In line with the Implementation Board’s wish to ensure that the ideas progress and that the intellectual property is preserved, the transition plan generally anticipates that FMA Australia will be the principal future custodian to continue the FM Action Agenda legacy.

The status of three outstanding publications initiated during the Action Agenda's three year term is as follows:

The “Innovative Procurement Solutions for Service Delivery” publication has just been released and is available through FMA Australia.

The “Practical Guide to Sustainability for Operational Facility Managers” and “Facility Management Contribution to Productivity Improvement” publications are nearing completion.
