FMA Australia is a founding member of Global FM, an international alliance of member based facility management associations.

The goal of Global FM is to provide leadership in the Facilities Management (FM) profession and to promote FM around the world. As a single, united entity, Global FM serves as a conduit for furthering the knowledge and understanding of facility management, sharing of best practices and resulting in added value to the individual members of each member association.

Global FM will strive to:

• Encourage greater collaboration between international FM communities.
• Promote the FM industry around the world.
• Utilize the diverse cultures and strengths of each organization to enhance the skills of members.
• Support countries that wish to form FM-related organizations where one is not yet established.

International Memorandum of Understanding

Three of the founding partners of Global FM, FMA Australia, the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA USA), are signatories to an International Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU). The IMOU was established to promote international collaboration between the three bodies in the interests of their members and the global FM community.

The aim of the IMOU, like Global FM, is to share knowledge and to promote the development of worldwide standards and best practice guidelines for FM as a professional business sector. This includes enhanced membership experience, educational opportunities, advancement of the profession and promotion of sound administrative, operational and financial best practice for more than 28,000 members represented by the three Asscociations. In addition, the IMOU covers joint meetings, membership benefits, advocacy, research and certification.

FMA Australia enjoys a productive relationship with its allied organisations in the Global FM community, particularly in the UK, USA and South Africa and is actively pursuing further opportunities for collaboration to build on the successful Partners in Excellence program.

Partners in FM Excellence agreements were developed in order to promote international collaboration, the development of worldwide standards and best practice guidelines for FM as a professional business sector. Partners in FM Excellence links over 30,000 FM members worldwide.

Members of all organisations enjoy the benefits at no extra cost and receive a common discount for events, training, and publications.

Of particular value is a provision in the agreement which calls for the members of each organisation to have electronic access to the members' areas of the other associations' web sites. As a result, FMA Australia members are able to access the Members Only sections of the BIFM and IFMA websites.
